Gala Auction Rules

Silent Auction and Unique and Priceless Auction Rules

The Silent Auction begins at 5:30 p.m. and closes at 7:20 p.m. All items in the auction have bid sheets. Bidders must print their name, telephone number and bid number next to the pre-printed bid amount they select. Each increase in bid must equal or exceed the minimum increase amount stated at the top of the bid sheet to constitute a valid bid. All bid increases must be in full dollar amounts. If there is no bid number listed next to the name, a bid will be disqualified.

Guaranteed Winning Bid
No more standing in line or hovering over the auction items you desperately want. The Guaranteed Winning Bid is back again this year by popular demand! You can bypass a bidding war if you are willing to pay top dollar for an item. Yes, it’s that easy!

Still not sure? Here’s how it works: all items in the Silent Auction are open to bidding. Each item, however, will also list a “Guaranteed Winning Bid” that is set above the value of the item. Guaranteed Winning Bids may be made at any time prior to the time of a section’s closing. A “Guaranteed Winning Bid” ends all bidding and guarantees the sale of that item to the “Guaranteed” bidder. If no one chooses to be the Guaranteed Purchaser, the last highest valid bid at the closing will be the successful bidder.

The Silent Auction tables will close at 7:20 p.m. and will be clearly announced in the auction area. NO bidding will be allowed after the sections are closed. The closing valid bid circled by the auction official constitutes the winning bid. In the event of a dispute, an Auction Committee official shall act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. The official’s decision will be final.

Winning bidders will be posted in the ballroom during dinner. To claim a prize, winners must identify themselves at cashiering (or auction pick-up if they participated in Express Check Out) with their bid number and name. Once the payment has been made, bidders will proceed to Item Pick Up to claim prizes. Auction cashiers will be available from 9:30 p.m. until midnight.

Payment for prizes may be made by cash, check, Discover, MasterCard, Visa or American Express and must be made on the night of the event or the item will be offered to the next highest bidder. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds except where noted in the Auction Section. The donor value refers to each individual item. Multiple items are available only when indicated. Please note for federal income tax purposes, your tax-deductible amount is limited to the excess contribution paid above the fair market value.

Shipping can also be arranged at the bidder’s expense. Deliveries will be arranged for a mutually agreed upon date and time during the week of December 12-16, 2005. Items not picked up by January 9, 2006 will be sold to the next highest bidder.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and its Illinois Chapter assume no responsibility for the authenticity, condition or validity of the description of the items offered. Retail values are established by the donor, and in some cases, are estimates of the value. All property is sold “as is,” and buyers must realize that the restrictions noted on the bid sheets are non-negotiable. By purchasing items, buyers waive any claims for liability against JDRF International and its Illinois Chapter. The donor shall not be responsible for any injuries, damages or other liability claims, which may result from the use of the items sold. Prizes redeemed are non-transferable (including, but not limited to, the offering of prizeletter(s) on public auction websites such as eBay).
