Group for Adults with Type 1
This informal support/social group is for young adults with type 1 diabetes and their family members or significant others who want to gather to discuss life with type 1 diabetes. For more information, please visit the Facebook page Young and Type 1 or contact Abbey Studer at

Northern Suburbs
This group is comprised of families from the northern suburbs (Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, and Glencoe communities) and typically meets every other month. Meetings take place in group members homes on weekday mornings. Occasionally there is a guest speaker, but the majority of the meeting time is spent focusing on group problem solving. Many of the issues that this group focuses on concern children who are in grade school (12 years old or younger). For more information, please reach out to Liesel Jankelowitz at

Candace Fleischmann, LCSW, is a psychotherapist with special interest in helping children and families with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Adults with type 1 group
This get-together group is for young adults with type 1 diabetes who want to gather to discuss living a happy and healthy life with type 1 diabetes. The group will meet once a month. The group will discuss topics such as nutrition, exercise, being social with diabetes, diabetes technology, family and relationships, and work situations. Support for adults with type 1
These monthly meetings offer support and networking opportunities for adults with type 1 diabetes. The group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 7:00-8:30pm at the Wilmette Public Library (1242 Wilmette Avenue in Wilmette). Guest speakers include endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, exercise physiologists, pump representatives and more! This group has been meeting for 12 years.
