Please join the JDRF Illinois Young Leaders Committee for “A Polished Afternoon” featuring manicures, pedicures and socializing with other pre-teens/teens living with type 1 diabetes. This is the first of many YLC-sponsored events for young adults to connect with their peers and learn more about JDRF.

Join the Chicago YLC team for a fun, brisk 4 mile walk and network with other young professionals as they participate in the 2010 JDRF Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Lakefront site. There will be a YLC-labeled table at the walk site where the team will meet prior to the walk start. Bring your morning coffee or juice, as well as your family, friends and pets and learn more about how to get involved. To kick off our walk efforts, please join us at Theory (9 W. Hubbard, downtown Chicago) on September 16 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Further event details to follow.

The Young Leaders Committee’s Academy Awards was held on Sunday, March 7th. The event was held at Luxbar in Chicago and emceed by NBC 5 meteorologist Ginger Zee. The event featured delicious hors d’oeuvres and drinks, a live viewing of the Academy Awards, and a silent auction benefitting JDRF. Ginger and special guest John Digles, an award-winning filmmaker and movie producer, helped selected the winners of the evening’s best dressed contest. More than $9,000 was raised for JDRF through ticket purchases, the silent auction and the balloting game!

On Thursday, January 28th, the JDRF Young Leaders Committee hosted a shopping event at the Intermix boutique in Bucktown. Guest shopped trendy looks, sipped wine and experienced mini-makeovers from neighborhood hair and makeup stylists. Whether it was a fashionable accessory or whole new outfit, each purchase made our guests more fashionable and benefited diabetes research. Thanks to Intermix for hosting and supporting the YLC and to our guests for making it such a fun event!
